mesura ( meh-soo'-rah )

noun ( moderation, restraint; courtesy )

Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Great saying. The problem for me is that I feel others judge me for being who I am and for my religious beliefs. That's why I hold the view on relgious entries on SD that I expressed yesterday. I'm saddened that no one agrees with me - Sassette, Jan 8, 2017
I think we all agree, but it's okay once in awhile. We are just told to "keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum." That statement was added here by Martha, the owner of the site. - rac1, Jan 8, 2017
No judging an individual though. - rac1, Jan 8, 2017

Hola amigos ... como estan ??

A mi Leo le gusta mucho los dulces pero solo se los sirvo con mesura porque los dulces no son Bueno para la salud de perros. Y ya tiene tres dientes cariados.

My Leo loves sweets but I only give them to him in moderation because sweets can be detrimental to Dog's health and he already has three rotten molars.

Ya que estoy en la tercera edad, es mucho más fácil vivir con "mesura en todas las cosas," porque tengo mucho menos energía.

Now that I am older, it´s much easier to live with "moderation in all things," because I have much less energy.

Después de que su médico le dijo que tenía que ponerse a una dieta con más mesura, sólo se permite salir a tomar una cerveza y una hamburguesa a la semana.

After his doctor told him that he had to put himself on a diet that was more moderate, he only allowed himself to go out to have one beer and one hamburger each week.

Yes, If we walk in love and patience towards one another, I believe we will be ok. You may not believe how I do, or you may, point being, we still get along fine together. ::) - rac1, Jan 10, 2017
