mampunser, baburi, and pitayita?
In California (especially the Bay Area), Old California Spanish was spoken, and three kinds of fruits are called mampunser, baburi, and pitayita.
I know that mampunser and baburi are two varieties of California gooseberries/currants, I just don't know which species they are.
The mampunser grows in a little tree with a little pink fruit in clusters.
For the baburi, there is a black and a yellow variety of gooseberry (two species for one name maybe?).
I know the pitaya or pitayita is used to mean prickly pear of a cactus today, but since those species are of the Opuntia genus, it's very unlikely the California name is for the contemporary pitaya since Opuntia plants never grew in northern California. The description of the pitayita is that it grows in shrubs, the fruit hangs down from the bush, the flower resembles California fuchsias, the fruits resemble the "baburi", they're spiky, have seeds like honey, and grow in Monterey a lot. Could the pitayita be some kind of cactus prickly pear variety, or is it another gooseberry? There is a plant called a fuchsia-flowered gooseberry.

I've haven't heard of these fruit, my Spanish is a cross between modern Castillian and modern Mexican. We do have a member who is a scientist and can probably locate what you are looking for. His user name is Bosquedroble.
I hope he sees this and will come to your aid.
Buena suerte.
