There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Smell es la palabra general.

Para olores agradables, se pueden utilizar aroma, fragrance, perfume o scent. Todas estas palabras suelen usarse en contextos más formales.

For pleasant smells, you can use aroma, fragrance, perfume or scent. All these words are often used in more formal contexts,

Siempre tengo un árbol de Navidad recién cortado, porque llena la casa con el maravilloso aroma de un árbol hoja perenne.

I always get a fresh cut Christmas tree, because it fills the house with the wonderful aroma of an evergreen.

El aroma de flores existe para atraer a ciertos polinizadores, especialmente a los insectos, y aromas distintos atraen a diferentes insectos. Aunque típicamente a nosotros seres humanos también nos gustan estos aromas, no es siempre el caso y normalmente no encontramos agradable el aroma de una flor que atrae a una mosca, por ejemplo. Los pájaros como el colibrí dependen más de las pistas visuales, pero otros animales, como los murciélagos también usan el olor.

The aroma of flowers exists to attract certain pollinators, especially insects, and distinct aromas attract different insects. Although typically human beings also like these aromas, it is not always the case and normally we don't find the aroma of a flower that attracts a fly attractive, for example. Birds like the hummingbird depend more on visual cues, but other animals like bats also use smell.

Beetles like flowers a little msuky, but flies like them positively foul. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 27, 2016
Musky; it is better to attract a specific pollinator, that will bring pollen from the same species, and not one that will bring the wrong pollen. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 27, 2016
I attract mosquitos and I'm not even a flower. - Sassette, Dec 27, 2016
I have the same issue, as does one of my daughters. The rest are always happy to have us near, as we are always the best choices, and they don't get bit. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 27, 2016
They are attracted to me as well. I believe I read that it's something in your blood. - rac1, Dec 27, 2016

La lavanda tiene una aroma fuerte y muy agradable, pero parece que no es así para las palomillas, porque ellas huyen de esta aroma. Cada quien tiene su gusto.

The lavender has a strong and very pleasant aroma, but it seems that it is not so for the moths, because they flee from this aroma. Everyone has their taste.

Después de oler el aroma de un plato horneado todo el día, a menudo me parece que no tengo mucha hambre cuando es hora de comer. Extraño, ¿no?

After smelling the aroma of a dish baking all day, I often find that I am not very hungry when it is time to eat. Strange, no?

No dejes que nadie te dice diga quien debes ser. ¡Sé tu mismo! ...y el aroma de tu perfume sacará tu verdadera yo.

Do not let anyone tell you who you should be. Be yourself! ...and the scent of your perfume will bring out your true self.

Thanks for correction, mstivers smile
