There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

En las semanas venideros espero obtener un permiso para volar un avión de combate de nuevo después de cometió un error por caer un misil durante despegar hace año después de haber cometido el error de dejar caer un misil durante un despegue el año pasado.

In the coming months weeks I hope to receive permission to fly a fighter jet again after I made a boo boo and dropped a missle on take off a year ago.

Thanks so much for suggestions, bosque smile.

Although I believe the suggestions are accurate bosque and I would appreciate any corrections by a native speaker.

The Defense Dept. is embarrassed that they ever gave a girl like me permission to fly in the first place so they tried to keep this animation under wraps. lol - Sassette, Dec 26, 2016
Good one amiga. lol :) - rac1, Dec 26, 2016
I don't think that Las semanas venideros= the coming months. I think you did one of my common mistakes, changing the thought midstream and not getting it all to match. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 26, 2016
I might have ended it something like "...después de haber cometido el error de dejar caer un misil durante un despegue el año pasado." but I am not qualified to do corrections. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 26, 2016
But don't follow después de with a conjugated verb without an intervening que. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 26, 2016
You could say después de que cometí... - bosquederoble, Dec 26, 2016
@bosque I learned a lot from your suggestions. I totally forgot that verbs are not conjugated after después de. It's good to know I have an option of adding "que" + conjugated verb. - Sassette, Dec 26, 2016
Thanks, Ambette. :) - Sassette, Dec 26, 2016

Espero que no me siento demasiado encerrado en los dias venideros como usa hasta mis dias de vacaciones restantes.

I hope that I don't fee too cooped up in the coming days as I use up the rest of my vacation days.

En los años venidos venideros, estaré muy ocupado, porque hay cada vez menos afinadores.

In the coming years, I will be very busy, because there are fewer and fewer piano tuners.

I just want to point out a typo with the word of the day, venideros :) - Sassette, Dec 26, 2016
Gracias, sassette! That was careless! - mstivers, Dec 26, 2016
Hola amigo...it happens. Thanks, Sassette! :):) - rac1, Dec 26, 2016
I could use a good tuner right now. Three notes on my piano are producing ugly overtones. - AnnRon, Dec 26, 2016

La verdad es que nunca he usado la palabra "venidero" antes- normalmente uso algo como "los años que vienen" o "los próximos años" en lugar de "los años venideros", pero quizás en lo venidero lo intente para sonar más literario.

The truth is that I have never used the word "forthcoming" before- normally I use something like "the coming years" or "the next years" instead of "the forthcoming years", but perhaps in the future I will try it to sound more literary.

I'm not sure I've ever run accross this word before in my Spanish readings. I'm glad I know about the word now. - Sassette, Dec 26, 2016
I don't use forthcoming in that way either. - rac1, Dec 26, 2016
It was true both in English and Spanish for me. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 26, 2016

Esperamos terminar nuestra remodelación lenta de cocina en el año venidero.

We hope to finish our slow-motion kitchen remodel in the coming year.

Slow motion seems to apply to paying for the remodel. It took years for her to pay it off (she still may not be finished with the payments). - Sassette, Dec 26, 2016
It will be done and you will be happy about it then. :) - rac1, Dec 26, 2016

Casi todo el mundo hace promesas por el año venido, pero en general nada lo garantiza que esta vez cumplirán sus promesas .

Almost everyone makes promises for the coming year, but in general nothing guarantees that this time they will keep their promises.

Nope, that's true. You have to decide you will do it and stick with it. :) - rac1, Dec 26, 2016
