There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Mom, I think I'm frozen stiff. Can we go decide on a tree already?

2: El carbonero se estaba arreciando, así que lo metí a la casa para que se calentara.

Yep, I know....maybe help us a bit, but not the way we've been playing. Can't blame Brees. I blame the owner, Tom Benson too cheap to keep people like sproles, and Graham, Colston and others. - rac1, Dec 12, 2016

En invierno mantengo un secador de pelo en mi garaje para usar en las noches cuando llego a casa para encontrar que mi cerradura de la puerta frontal ha arrecido.

In winter I keep a hairdryer in my garage to use on nights when I arrive home to find that my front door lock has frozen solid.

I imagine that someone has invented a heated doorknob by now :-)! - Jraider, Dec 13, 2016
That would be nice, Jraider. Once the cover to the outside receptacle was frozen too, and I couldn't open it to plug in the hairdryer. Had a time getting in. Had to warm the doorknob with my bare hands. Not fun! - AnnRon, Dec 13, 2016

En Texas, las tormentas de hielo pueden llegar muy rápidamente; varias veces la puerta de mi coche se ha arrecido.

In Texas the ice storms can come on very quickly; several times my car door has frozen over.

I have a picture from a couple of years ago that I took. Our fountain in the courtyard had frozen mid stream. That never happens her in New Orleans. - rac1, Dec 12, 2016

Hace muchos años, cuando nuestros hijos eran niños, compramos nuestro último árbol de Navidad real. Pasamos horas durante una ventisca en la cima de una montaña vagando por todas partes mientras uno se negaba a aceptar la elección del otro y viceversa. Por fin todos nosotros se arrecimos suficientemente que se formó un acuerdo. En las ventas después de la Navidad, compramos un árbol artificial.

Many years ago, when our children were still young, we bought our last real Christmas tree. We spent hours during a blizzard on a mountain top wandering around while one would refuse to accept the choice of the other and vice versa. Finally all of us were frozen solid enough that an agreement was formed. In the sales after Christmas, we bought an artificial tree.

I bought a real one in a warm department store yesterday :-)! - Jraider, Dec 12, 2016
We are surrounded by Christmas tree farms, not just wineries. There is actually one less than 200 ft from my house, but it is not a U-cut open to the public, I think it is commercial. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 12, 2016

Me parece muy difícil vivir en un lugar en donde se puede arrecirse. En mi región hay ni hielo ni nieva. Las personas aquí dicen "¡Me arrezco!" cuando la temperatura baja a diez grados C.

To me it seems very difficult to live where one can be frozen stiff. In my area there is neither ice or snow. People here say "I am freezing" when the temperature falls to ten degrees C.

Maybe it's the dampness. It seems to seep into your bones. Sometimes I'm colder when it's like that more than when it's very cold - rac1, Dec 13, 2016
