Rey Azteca? Why not Rey Azteco?

Rey Azteca? Why not Rey Azteco?

Hola! We often eat at a local restaurant called "Rey Azteca". Since Rey is masculine I was wondering why it isn't Rey Azteco?

Gracias,

George

Welcome to SpanishDict. When it comes to what people name their business, that is just what they called it. - rac1, Dec 4, 2016

There are some names of tribes of people that we don´t change the last vowel when it´s A , ie: Los toltecas, Los mayas, Los chichimecas, Los aztecas. I don´t know if this is a grammar point or not, but El rey azteca is correct.

To add to what Julian has said, "Azteca" is a name of a tribe. This type of name has no gender.

What if it's a tribe of all women? ;-) - Winkfish, Dec 4, 2016
Then it would be "El restaurante 'la amazona." - Daniela2041, Dec 4, 2016
