How do you say "I like to cook food: ? Would it be "A mí me gusta cocino los alimentos"

Hi Fabiana. If you are planning on being a regular user it's a good idea to include your language levels in your profile: It helps others to help you smile Also make an attempt at all your translations. People here will help you correct them, but they won't do them for you.

"I like to cook food: ? Would it be "A mí me gusta cocino los alimentos"

You don't need the "A mí" unless you want to add emphasis.

"Cocino" is "I cook" but here you are wanting to say "to cook" so you need to change this verb to the infinitive in Spanish.

I'm not a native speaker, but to me "alimento" has a more specific meaning than "comida" so I'd change that also.

This is not necessary for now. We hope she/he will complete the profile in the future. Also, if he just needs a translation, it's ok to translate it. It's up to you. - rac1, Nov 24, 2016
Okay thank you:) - Fabiana_, Nov 24, 2016
No worries Rac. I'd prefer to prompt people into learning anyway. Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, but ... you know the rest :) - jellonz, Nov 24, 2016
Check your PM. :) - rac1, Nov 24, 2016
/would the second sentence be "ME Gusta ver gende sonria cada vez que comen mi comida"? - Fabiana_, Nov 24, 2016
I'd go with "Me gusta ver la gente sonrĂen cuando comen mi comida" but I'm just a learner too :) - jellonz, Nov 24, 2016
@jellonz Thank you :D - Fabiana_, Nov 25, 2016

I am not too advanced, so I can be mistaken, but after reading some texts in Spanish I have an intuition that You should just say "Me gusta cocinar".

You would have to say what you like to cook if it wasn't food, but as it is default for cooking to cook food, it is spuriouswink

I may be mistaken :O

Okay thanks but do I need to change cocinar to cocino? - Fabiana_, Nov 24, 2016
No, You write "me gusta cocinar" no matter if something follows "cocinar" or not ;) - Leflur-Fluflur, Nov 24, 2016
@Fabiana Why are you giving "Best Answer" when you still are asking the question about, "cocinar?" - rac1, Nov 24, 2016
Okay Thank you :) - Fabiana_, Nov 24, 2016
I agree with this answer. "Me gusta cocinar alimentos / comida" sounds just as strange as "I like to cook food" - 005faa61, Nov 25, 2016
