I am reading a story both in English and Spanish In English a sentence reads, "it's about 17 blocks away." In Spanish "está como diecisiete minutos"

That sounds very American to use "like" as in "it's like 17 minutes away" Would a Spanish person really use that word the same way we do?

"está como diecisiete minutes"

We can use como this way but blocks are cuadras - not minutos, ie: Queda / está (como) a 17 cuadras para allá.
