If I want to say "I went sightseeing and shopping" in Spanish, is this correct: "Yo fui de turismo y compras."? If not, how can I correct it and why?

Anyone care to give it a go?

I am not native, and do not know the all the possible options and where the edges of what is allowed and what not are.

If I want to say "I went sightseeing and shopping" in Spanish, is this correct: "Yo fui de turismo y compras."?

Personally I probably would have tried:

Hice turismo y fui de compras.

As I have seen "hacer turismo" and "ir de compras" as the base phrases. But I don't know if something closer to yours would work.

I am thinking "curiosear" and "ïr de compras". No doubt about the latter. Regarding the former, it's like "seeing what's out there", maybe I'll buy, maybe not.

"Aburrido y sin donde en caerme muerto füi a curiosear las vidrieras de la Casa Inglesa aqui en Madrid,,,"
