usage question: "del mismo"

Question

I have seen instances where "del mismo" roughly back translates to "thereof." RAE/dudas says that "del mismo" should never act as an anaphor, and that one should use a pronoun like este/ese. Is RAE being overly pedantic in this case? Is there a region of the world where this usage of "del mismo" is so common in written Spanish that it should really be acceptable? Or do people tend to agree with RAE?

I am not sure of the exact meaning of thereof but I can say that del mismo can translate direct to English as of the same, ie: Y ahora deme tres del mismo por favor.

My dictionary gives this:

a proportion thereof / una proporción del mismo

Can you provide an example with "del mismo"? I can't think of one myself. I can think of "la misma".

Habrá una reunión el sábado. En la misma, los miembros podrán comunicar sus ideas.

I have learned about this rule just recently and I was surprised because I always see sentences like this around. I guess it's very common to write it, but if it's incorrect then let's not use it
