There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Cualquier niño sabe que un pato grazna y un búho ulula.

Los dos oyeron el búho ululando mientras el niño llevaba a su hermana menor al bosque para ir a la casa del árbol mágica. No leí todos los libros en esta serie, los que estaban disponibles en la biblioteca local, antes de que mi español mejorara lo suficiente para leer cosas más complejas, pero leí muchos, y aprendí los sonidos de muchos animales haciéndolo.

The two heard the owl hooting as the boy led his little sister into the woods to go to the magical tree house. I did not read all the books in this series, which were available in the local library, before my Spanish improved to the point of reading more complex things, but I read a lot of them, and learned the sounds of a lot of animals doing so.

You're not curious how they end? :) - rac1, Oct 22, 2016
Each book is an individual adventure, and I am not sure she has stopped writing new ones. :) - bosquederoble, Oct 22, 2016
Their magical tree house transports them to some historical setting, they get into trouble, and manage to escape it and get back home each time. :) - bosquederoble, Oct 22, 2016
Oh, so basically the same scenario each time. - rac1, Oct 22, 2016
Yes, the details change, but the overriding theme is repetitive. But they were sufficiently enjoyable to read, unlike some aimed at teens that involve teen angst that I can no longer relate to. :) - bosquederoble, Oct 22, 2016

Puede ser intimidante para escuchar coyotes ululando fuera de la cerca en la noche.

It can be intimidating to hear coyotes howling outside the fence at night.

Se trata de un libro , donde hay un búho mudo, pero espero que el fin de la historia el pobre búho vaya a aprender de ulular.

This is a book where there is a dumb owl, but I hope that at the end of history the poor owl will learn hooting.

Si no hubiera oído por el sonido del búho ululando en la noche, no habría encontradolo.

If he had not listened for the sound of the owl hooting in the night, he would not have found it.
