Masculine and Feminine Identity

Once again have a question for you all!

The sentence, "The girl loves you," is translated, "La chica te ama."

While the sentence, "The boy loves you," is translated, "El chico te ama."

Why isn't the last sentence translated, "El chico te amo," sense it is masculine?

I'm going to take a guess: amar is a verb and you don't change verbs, like adjectives, based on gender. I'll wait to see what the answer is. - Sassette, Oct 20, 2016
...check out conjugation for amar. Amo is present in the yo form. http://www.spanishdict.com/conjugate/amar - Sassette, Oct 20, 2016
Sassette, your answer seems to me to be correct, why not put it as an answer. ;) - bosquederoble, Oct 20, 2016
Thanks, bosque. I was confident I was right but I always doubt myself. :) - Sassette, Oct 20, 2016
@keziahjnelson Nice job filling out your profile. It would help us further to help you with any questions you have if you can add your proficiency in Spanish like you did with English. :) - Sassette, Oct 20, 2016
@Sassette I would fill out my Spanish level though I am not sure what my level is :) - k_nelson, Oct 20, 2016

Hola, keziahjnelson:

Ama is correct. Verbs and all their conjugations in Spanish do not change according to gender like adjectives do. So ama is the él/ella/Ud present form. The boy falls into that. It's not amo because that would be in the yo form (that would be I love).

It's a good question. I hope my answer helps. smile
