I think there are several ways to phrase this into an idiomatic way in Spanish:

1. si no te importa
2. se te da lo mismo
3. si no te molesta
4. si te es indiferente

To be more formal, just replace te with le.

Full sentence becomes,

1. (...), voy a comenzar a enviarte mensajes en español porque necesito más gente para practicar.
2. (...) porque necesito más gente con quien practicar español. (= more idiomatic.)

You can say textear, but that comes from the foreign word to text and it's very informal.
