There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

pero el libro era 'Guerra y paz '. Así que mi compromiso fue un fracaso.

Un monumental libro se convirtió en mi fracaso monumental pero valió la pena

esfuerzo.

but the book was 'War and Peace' . So my commitment was a failure .

El sábado que viene hay el gran final de nuestro fútbol australiano, un día muy importante para millones de australianos. En el estado de Victoria, el centro de fútbol, tenemos una vacación publica en el viernes antes. Este año un equipo es de Sydney (los Cisnes) y el otro es de Melbourne (los Buldogs). Siempre hay mucha rivalidad entre estas ciudades, asi que aquí en Victoria todo el mundo está apoyando los Buldogs. Desafortunademente tenemos un compromiso en el campo en el tiempo mismo pero podemos seguirlo por nuestros teléfonos.

Next Saturday is the Grand Final of our Australian football, a very important day for millions of Australians. In the state of Victoria, the centre of football, we have a public holiday the Friday before. This year one team is from Sydney (the Swans) and the other is from Melbourne (the Bulldogs). There is always a lot of rivalry between these cities, so here in Victoria everyone is supporting the Bulldogs. Unfortunately we have a commitment in the country at the same time but we can follow it on our phones.
