I would like to say "I have just started learning Spanish" I would prefer not to say "I am learning Spanish" as I want to show I haven't learned much yet. I would also rather not say "I speak a little Spanish" and dont want to simply say "I dont speak Spanish" I hope this makes sense

Welcome to SpanishDict. We ask that all new members complete their profiles with their native language, and what level of Spanish you feel you are, like, beginner, intermediate, etc. as well as gender. - ray76, Sep 25, 2016
If you complete your profile with that information on it . then it may make sense to us. - ray76, Sep 25, 2016
Yes, please complete your profile. As you learn Spanish and want to go from English to Spanish. You should always give a try as to what you might think it is. - Jubilado, Sep 25, 2016
Good luck with your trip. Weather in South America now is better than Scotland! - Mardle, Sep 25, 2016

Idiomatically,

  • Acabo de empezar a aprender español.

In this utterance, there's no pretérito perfecto compuesto (English present perfect). It has the same nuance like English: an action that recently started which is permanent in the present.
