sensatez ( sehn-sah-tehs' )

noun ( wisdom, common sense )

Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

En este libro y en la película se trata de dos hermanas y una tiene la sensatez y la otra no le tiene.

In this book and in the film there are two sisters and one has wisdom and the other does not have it.

La gente solía tener sensatez. No era necesario tener que decirle constantemente : "¡No intente esto en casa!".

People used to have common sense. You didn't have to constantly tell them: "Don't try this at home!".

I think making videos and the ablility to upload them has encouraged people to do risk things like never before. Someone who stood really close to a moving train is one of the riskiest, stupidest things I've seen. - Sassette, Sep 23, 2016

Algunas personas tienen inteligencia de los libros, pero no sensatez. Otras personas tienen sensatez, pero no inteligencia de los libros. Tengo un buen amigo que no tiene ni inteligencia de los libros ni sensatez. Es un hombre muy gracioso.

Some people have book smarts but no common sense. Other people have common sense, but no book smarts. I have a good friend who has neither book smarts nor common sense. He's a very funny man.

Muchas veces, lo que se llama la sensatez realmente es el prejuicio.

Many times, what is called common sense is really prejudice.

En el pasado creía que nadie con aún un poco de sensatez se postularía para un cargo elegido de importancia nacional, pero he decidido que para algunos, el aumento al ego y el deseo para su ambición de poder valen la crítica constante de la prensa.

In the past I used to think that no one with even a little bit of sense would run for an elected office of national importance, but I have decided that for some, the boost to their ego and their desire for power are worth the constant criticism from the press.

En el futuro, los niños tendrán más sensatez y dejen de se burlen dejarán de burlarse de las niñas

In the future, boys will have more wisdom and stop making fun of girls.

This entry was inspired by Demi Lovato's song Confident. Press here if you want to listen to it:Confident

Thank you, LuisCache, for the correction smile
