Use of "Que"
Hey guys, this is my first post. I have been studying Spanish for about a year and a half now and I am somewhat intermediate. Something that always confuses me is the use of "que" I understand it is used as like "than" or "to" sometimes and used with verbs and subjunctives. But sometimes when I am reading Spanish, or listening to Spanish music, it feels like they just use that word before like every other word? It seems unnecessary because I do not understand why it is used so much. If anyone could help me understand or explain it to me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!

"Que" has a multiplicity of uses.
(1) It is a relative pronoun--that or which. La pelota que compré la semana pasada.
(2) It is a question word,--sometimes "what" sometimes "which" Ex. ¿Qué hora es? --What time is it?
(2) ¿Qué muchacho rompió la ventana.-----Which boy broke the window?
(3) It appears in about three billion idiomatic expressions (hmmm slight exaggeration.) A few hundred anyway.
Tener que, --to have to ---para que----in order (to)--- después de que ---after that +plus some verb antes de que ---before that + some verb
There are many more. Don't worry about them, just take them in one at a time as you are either being taught or run into them.
Just get used to it. If every other word seems to be "que" then every third word is "a"
By the way, what Rac1 said about putting in "que" into our translator, you get a really big bunch of uses of "que." So do it already.
Ain't Spanish Fun????
