Preterite vs Imperfecto my thoughts

Preterite vs Imperfecto my thoughts

Hello

Could you tell me how the imperfect works? I mean, I guess I know the difference between imperfecto and indefinido. I've been taught that:

  • Preterite - we use it when we reffer to a completed and the most important - defined, concrete action. So we use it when we mean a specifed situation, or we add the time period when it happened.

Ayer compró un libro nuevo

Estudió en España desde 2009 por 2011

Jugó el mejor partido de mi vida

  • Imperfect - we use it when we don't mean any specifed and concrete situation that occurred once, so we can us it when talking about longer time periods

Esto era mi sueño

No iba a hacerlo, pero finalmente lo he hecho

Is it okay?

Thanks!

Some sentences don't work properly but the idea you got is right.

  1. Estudió en España desde el 2009 hasta el 2011. NOT ...2009 por 2011.
  2. Jugué el mejor partido de mi vida. NOT Jugó...
