ímpetu ( eem'-peh-too )

noun ( energy; impetus, momentum )

Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Special note of thanks to Julian for correcting yesterday! We appreciate that. smile

Yes, indeed, it is nice to get corrections. Anyone can benefit from seeing corrections even if the person who was corrected doesn't return to view them. - Sassette, Sep 5, 2016
I agree, amiga. Thanks for saying that. :) - rac1, Sep 5, 2016

Desde aquel entonces cuando algo ocurrió sobre el cual Marco nunca estaba dispuesto a contar, tenía un gran miedo de camiones de tacos, y hizo con gran ímpetu todo lo que podía para prevenir que hubiera más. Pero a mí me importa más que no haya bufones por todas partes, porque yo los encuentran encuentro mucho más espantosos.

Ever since that time long ago when something happened about which Marco was never willing to talk, he had a great fear of taco trucks, and did everything that he could very vigorously to prevent there being more. But to me it matters more that there not be clowns everywhere, because I find them much scarier.

Love the whimsy. - AnnRon, Sep 5, 2016
I wonder if it should be "encuentro" instead of "encuentran" because it is "I find." The "los" would be correct. - Sassette, Sep 5, 2016
Yes, that was an oversight on my part. Thanks Sassette. :) - bosquederoble, Sep 5, 2016
You're welcome. Keep up the good work. Writing stories in another language is impressive. - Sassette, Sep 5, 2016

El ímpetu del viento casi arruinaba la región maravillosa del alto Tatra( montaña en Eslovaquia), barriendo los pinos enormes.

The force of the wind almost ruined the wonderful region of the High Tatra (mountain in Slovakia), sweeping down the huge pines.

Hi amiga. I would use, "destroying" the huge pines"... :) - rac1, Sep 5, 2016
You could also just put the word "down" after "sweeping". Sweeping by itself has the meaning of cleaning with a broom. - Jubilado, Sep 5, 2016
Yes, that's true. Thanks, Jubilado. :) - rac1, Sep 5, 2016
