festejar ( feh-steh-hahr' )

verb ( to celebrate )

Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1: ¡Ganamos! ¡A festejar, compañeros!

We won! Time to celebrate, guys!

2: ¿Dónde vas a festejar tu cumpleaños este año?

Where are you going to celebrate your birthday this year?

Cuando festejaron la boda de William y Kate algunos periodistas le compararon con la boda de Cenicienta y se burlaron de unos participantes.

When the wedding of William and Kate was celebrated some journalists compared it with the wedding of Cinderella and made fun of some participants.

A mi esposa le gusta festejar cada día, y cree que siempre es posible encontrar algo para celebrar- hoy, por ejemplo, es el día nacional de Chop Suey.

My wife likes to celebrate every day, and believes that it is always possible to find something to celebrate- today, for example, is National Chop Suey Day

Creo que la gente necesita ocasiones para festejar. Hay muchas de estas: las Navidades, el Año Nuevo, los cumpleaños, los compromisos, las bodas, los nacimientos, el fin de los examenes, dejando el colegio, ganando un juego y mucho más. ¡Se puede estar en una fiesta todas las semanas!

I think people need occasions to celebrate. There are many of these: Christmas, New Year, birthdays, engagements, weddings, births, the end of exams, leaving school, winning a game and many more. One could be at a party every week!
