Learning the conjugations of words

Question

So I am having trouble remembering how to conjugate some of the verbs like "encender, rogar, bucear, dar" ect. This probably seems pretty stupid like I should know all this stuff already, but I am having a hard time trying to know what is going to be changed in the verb.

If there is anything you guys know that can help me remember this stuff that will be great.

Welcome to our SpanishDict community

I have viewed your profile and seeing that you are a beginner I would recommend that you learn some of the easier, regular, high frequency (most used) verbs first!

The high frequency verbs include:

Ar verbs, verbs whose infinitive ends in ar, for example hablar= to talk/speak, trabajar = to work, pensar = to think and caminar = to walk Regular verbs are those whose endings follow the same pattern and are therefore much easier to learn.

Er verbs whose infinitive ends in er, for example: comer = to eat, poner = to put/place and vender = to sell

Ir verbs whose infinitive ends in ir, for example: vivir = to live

This website has a verb conjugator that can help you out with learning some of those conjugations. Spanish follows a pretty straightforward rule-set; most words that end in a specific stem change will have the same stem changes (for example encender --> enciendo, -es, -e, encendemos, encendéis, -en and any other words that are like it).

Decir and maldecir would be good examples of this rule:

Digo, dices, dice, decimos, decís, dicen
Maldigo, maldices, maldice, maldecimos, maldecís, maldicen

Most of the time, nosotros and vosotros conjugations won't make any stem changes.

There are exceptions to many rules. So, it's always good to double check.

"Decir" is an "e"to "i" stem change but it is one of some verbs where the "yo" form ends in "go" like salgo pongo traigo, etc. - Daniela2041, Aug 26, 2016

Here is a link to a study on stem-changing verbs (verbos con cambios radicales) It gives the common changes, --e to ie, o to ue, e to i and so forth. Be sure to read the small print. I'll give the link to the stem changing verbs.

There are a lot of good articles on SD about the various in's and out's of Spanish verbs. Go to the home page, scroll all the way down to "grammar" click on it. Then scroll slowly going past all the other stuff until you get to "Verbs" you find all sorts of interesting stuff on it. Click on what interests you.
