The match I'm gonna play
Hello
I wanted to ask you about the subjuntivo, I hope it will be the last time, because I think I get it. Here is my try, if it's okay, I'll be sure that I have mastered this mood ![]()
El partido que juegue a la seis, será el mejor de mi vida - I'm not sure if I play in this match but I'm sure it will be the best in my life
El partido que jugaré a la seis, será el mejor de mi vida - I'm sure I'll play in this match, and I'm sure it will be the best in my life
And there is nothing deeper about this
Am I right? Thanks

The first phrase shouldn't be subjunctive because it doesn't have anything to trigger the subjunctive. I had a friend that would quote the Lord's prayer a lot and would say it as such, "Padre nuestro que estés en los cielos..."
Technically speaking, you could use the subjunctive, but it's adding this hypothetical meaning to what is being said even though the idea isn't hypothetical at all. You could change it to say "Será el mejor de mi vida cuando juegue el partido a las seis." OR "Será el mejor de mi vida si podría jugar el partido a las seis."
The second phrase would be the grammatically correct one because the tenses and the moods agree with the indicators of the phrase.
Hello Matty,
In Spanish, certain verbs of emotion trigger the subjunctive such as querer and esperar but there also need to be two different subjects, one in each clause:
ex1: El entrenador: " ¡Quiero que juegues el mejor partido de tu vida! "
The subjunctive is used in example 1: two separate subjects: one in clause one: Quiero (I want) and a different one in clause 2 juegues (you play)!
There is a degree of doubt or uncertainty in the mind of the speaker as to whether the other person will do what they want them to do so the subjunctive is used!
The coach (trainer): " I want you to play the best game of your life!"
ex 2. El jugador: "¡Quiero jugar el mejor partido de mi vida!
= "I want to play the best game of my life! "
The indicative is used in example 2 because only one subject is used: Quiero ( I want) and the speaker is speaking about himself and he is making a statement!
I hope this helps ![]()
