La casa donde viviré/vivia

La casa donde viviré/vivia

Hello

Could you tell me what's the difference between those sentences?

La casa donde viva será azul - La casa donde viviré será azul

I think the difference is: the first is like "one day", "in the distant future", and the second could be said when I've already bought the house.

Am I right?

Thanks

  1. La casa donde viva será azul. (= intention; not a current situation.)
  2. La casa donde viviré será azul. (= likely situation.)

Subjunctive is somewhat related to the future, but remember that shows a certain impresicion of what we're talking about.

Thanks! Can we say that we use the subjunitivo when we talk about a thing that could exist, or not - we don't know. It's like "Busco una persona que hable espanol" - we don't know it any person like this exist. - Matty08, Aug 20, 2016
"La casa donde viva sera azul" - I want my future house to be blue, but I don't know if any blue house exist/ I don't mean any specifed blue house. Am I right? - Matty08, Aug 20, 2016

Oshnaj, could you also say that the first sentence reflects a desire and a dream of the kind of house in which they would like to live? - FELIZ77, Aug 20, 2016
Exactly! - Oshnaj, Aug 21, 2016

The subjunctive MUST be triggered by words that express doubt.

"La casa donde viva sera azul." means somethings along these lines "The house that I might be living in will be blue." You're recognizing a doubt in living there, but not in the actual color of the house.

"La casa donde viviré será azul." The house where I will live, will be blue. This would mean that you are going to live there, but could pass the judgement that you are still looking for a blue house.

Here is an alternative: "La casa donde viviré es azul." The house where I will live is blue. This would say that you have closed on the house and are moving in shortly and that the house most certainly is blue.

What about when expressing emotion? Example: Me siento mal que estés enfermo. - AnnRon, Aug 21, 2016
Well, doubt isn't the only thing that can trigger the subjunctive. It applies to Judgement, Emotion, Doubt and Influence. - codyandrews1993, Aug 22, 2016
