Resources for western / US Spanish vocab?

Resources for western / US Spanish vocab?

I often see differences between the Spanish used in Latin American countries and Spain, but are there any resources you have found for words and phrases that are specifically used in the US?

To be more specific, I live in central California, where I think (I'm no expert) mostly Mexican Spanish is used, in combination with a little bit of Spanglish?

So I'm looking for a site or something that might help me with some regional words or phrases or slang that I might hear here. Thanks.

Welcome to SpanishDict. We ask that all new members complete their profiles with their native language, and what level of Spanish you feel you are, like, beginner, intermediate, etc. as well as gender. - rac1, Aug 20, 2016

I am sure you will find if you are talking to hispanohablantes in California you will pick up a lot of the local phrases. Daniela is definitely an expert.

Here are some other resources

Acadamia Mexicana

jergas There is a whole section on Mexico

Slang - general

2000 words in 20 minutes This is an amazing resource. As it has been assembled in Puebla I assume it veers to Mexican

Work on your pronunciation and listening skills and you will soon gather the vocabulary you want.

If you will Google California Spanglish you'll find a bunch of good sites.

Here's a link to one I like.

Thanks, but this seems to mainly just explain spanglish. I was more looking for a list, like this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_Spanish#Some_examples_of_lexicon - Yat_Mier, Aug 20, 2016
That is a scholarly article that definitely discusses the Spanish of Mexico vs. Spain. I thought you were interested in the California Spanish which is mostly Mexican but has a lot of variation of its own. - Daniela2041, Aug 20, 2016
Yes! Something specific to California would be great. I'm having a hard time finding anything though, and think I might have to settle for sites that focus on Mexican Spanish - Yat_Mier, Aug 20, 2016
