- LuisCache, Aug 18, 2016

I have used ¿El menú, por favor? No reason to be too ambitious. If you ask too carefully you may not understand the answer. Can you hold a conversation? Listening skills can take a while.

If English is your first language and you are visiting a tourist area when the waiters hear your English accent they will respond in English.

I have assumed your English is better than your Spanish. Can you add your level of Spanish and English to your profile? It may help if you indicate which country you want to visit. Julian and Luis have excellent knowledge of the Spanish used in Mexico.

Hola Frank,

Bienvenido al foro SpanishDict smile

Has preguntado:

o

¿Me podría traer la carta, por favor? = Could you bring me the menu, please?

From my experience, la carta normally refers to a menu that offers a variety of individual dishes (choices), whereas el menú usually refers to a set menu or the dish of the day. eg: el menú del día which is more usually cheaper!

(The second option above is more polite/respectful but to the best of my knowledge the first one is often used by natives in Spain and other parts of Latin America)

I hope this helps smile

cortés not cortes - they are different words - Mardle, Aug 18, 2016
You are right, la carta o el menú. - LuisCache, Aug 18, 2016
