desapercibido ( dehs-ah-pehr-see-bee'-doh )

adjective ( unnoticed; undetected )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1: Casi pasó desapercibido, pero al parecer uno de los vallistas empujó a uno de sus contrincantes.

It almost went unnoticed, but apparently one of the hurdlers pushed one of his competitors.

2: El submarino pasó desapercibido por debajo del buque de guerra.

The submarine passed undetected underneath the warship.

There are things that should never go unnoticed or let fester.

Hay cosas que nunca deberían pasar desapercibidos o dejar que se agraven.

I couldn't figure out if this should be subjunctive or not. Native speakers, help! - mstivers, Aug 18, 2016
Maybe, hopefully, one will come along and take a look for us. :) - rac1, Aug 18, 2016
"Puede", en subjuntivo, es correcto. Pero "desapercibido" se usa más con el verbo "pasar": Una enfermedad puede pasar desapercibida. Saludos, Mstivers! - LuisCache, Aug 18, 2016

How often are people unjustly "convicted" in the court of public opinion through unfair tactics? Controversy remains on these two actual court cases, and the movies (plus T.V. series - the Fugitive: - ) that made their overturn famous. - Esteban_317, Aug 18, 2016

Es bueno que el agujero de la capa de ozono debido a los CFCs no fuera desapercibido, y que el mundo decidiera hacer algo para impedirlo en 1987- pero supongo que si hubiera sido descubierto en la época moderna de Internet, algún científico chiflado habría afirmado que había estado allí por siempre y que no era debido a los acciones de los seres humanos, y nadie se habría puesto de acuerdo para hacer nada.

It is good that the hole in the ozone layer due to CFCs did not go unnoticed, and that the world decided to do something to impede it in 1987- but I suppose that if it were to have been discovered in the modern Internet age, some crackpot scientist would have declared that it had been there forever and was not due to the actions of human beings, and no one would have agreed to do anything.

Supongo que los atléticos que usan las drogas esperan que la cantidad en sus cuerpos se queda tan poco que es desapercibida en las pruebas.

I suppose that the athletes who use drugs hope that the quantity in their bodies remains so small that it is undetected in tests.
