What does this word mean La farándulera does anyone know?

Can someone tell me what this word means in English. It was a comment on a post from my Colombian now ex girlfriends Facebook page. It seems like they were asking her if her post was about la Farendulera

I asked a lady that I know from Colombia and she said that this word is used to describe someone that likes to know news about celebrities , so the post is open and OK. - ray76, Aug 19, 2016

I think you're mixing up two words: farándula and farandulera.

Farándula(noun) is basically all the people involved in the show business, especially (but not exclusively) theatre actors.

Farandulera(feminine adjective) could refer to one of these things:

1) Someone who belongs to the farándula. (not commonly used, at least in Argentina) 2) Someone who already belongs to the farándula but is constantly seeking attention by going to gossip shows and such.

3) Someone who tries to stand out or seek attention by being eccentric (buying a poodle-toy, wearing big sunglasses, taking a lot of photos, etc) but is just an ordinary person.

4) Someone who wants to know all about the farándula.

Well, maybe it has more meanings but that's all I can think of right now. I hope it helps

La farándula speaks of "theatre" "the stage" etc. However when I checked your word out on Google, one of the definitions I found was the following:

*trickster, person who plays tricks; rogue, crook, swindler, cheat

vain, conceited, proud*

Our SpanishDict translator gives:

*1 (Teat) (Hist) strolling player

2 (timador) confidence trickster; con man; swindler*

When I went to Photobucket images I found a bunch of porno photos.

El significado mas común para la palabra es el de una persona que le gusta estar presente en todo tipo de eventos donde participen actores, personas del jet set, del mundo de la moda, etc. pero la persona "farandulera" por lo general no es ni un actor/actriz ni ningún personaje de cierta relevancia en ese mundo. Tan solo le gusta estar allí por lo general para ver que puede "pescar" o simplemente porque disfruta de esa actividad que quizás la hace sentirse importante.

Sin embargo entre los caribeños, farandulero también es sinónimo de rumbero, fiestero.

Sorry, I don't have any clue. Please help. The word "farandulera" is intended with its negative meaning mainly used by people that live in Caribbean countries (Venezuela, Cuba, Panama, Puerto Rico, etc). Not sure that "sureños" Latin Americans have the same meaning than us.

I really would appreciate the help from someone that understands the subtle difference that there exists between the meaning of the word with respect with the one in the thread suggested by donbeto.

Sounds to me like someone who is not a celebrity, but wants to live the "lifestyle". The description brings to mind Paris Hilton, but perhaps she is a celebrity simply for being rich.
