There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Si el anciano detrás de nosotros había corrido un poco más rápido, podríamos haber empatado en el último lugar.

If the old man behind us had run a little faster, we could have tied for last place.

I like to play the game "Risk," but the games always take so long. We usually quit after a few hours and call it a tied game.

En el tenis no se puede tener una resulta empatada. Los jugadores tienen que seguir jugando hasta que haya un ganador.

In tennis it is not possible to have a tied result. The players have to continue to play until there is a winner.

How do you say in English: "quince iguales" (15-15) or "treinta iguales" (30-30) ? - LuisCache, Aug 16, 2016
Hi Luis, "fifteen all " and "thirty all" which means fifteen each and thirty each , Careful because it could be different in other countries . - ray76, Aug 19, 2016

--Están empatados a dos. (Van dos a dos).

--What is the score?

Your English is fine. I think it more natural to say "tied" than "even" though. Like you did in Spanish you can just say "tied at two.":) - bosquederoble, Aug 15, 2016

¿Cuántas veces nos sentamos y decimos que esperamos que el partido que estamos a punto de ver termine empatado para que ninguno de los equipos tenga que perder? Queremos que alguien gane.

How many times do we sit down and say that we hope that the game that we are just about to watch ends up tied so that none of the teams have to lose? We want someone to win.

An answer for Luiscache.

In tennis, scoring in tie situations in which both players have won the same number of points also varies. When players are tied by one or two points, the score is described as "15-all" and "30-all", or "15-up" and "30-up", respectively. However, if each player has won three points, the score is described as "deuce" rather than "40–all". From this point on, whenever the score is tied, it is described as "deuce" regardless of how many points have been played.

Number of points won Corresponding call[1]

0 "love"

1 "15"

2 "30"

3 "40"

4 "game"

A typical tennis score is called 'thirty -all' in English (although 'all' seems a bit over the top for singles). In German they would say 'dreissig beider', beider meaning 'both'.
