Have you been asked to obtain opinions as to what foreigners think about people from Spain and the truth?

We have had various lessons on this subject as when learning a language it is important to learn how to express opinions.

[Tecla - esteriotipos][1]

I suggest that you search the internet. I have assumed from your user name that you are from Belgium and understand English.

Some stereotypes:

  1. The national dish is paella [ look up where paella is cooked]
  2. Spanish people like siestas [ Spain is a large country and life and culture in 'el país vasco y Asturias y Cantabria' is very different to the south]
  3. All Spanish people have brown eyes and dark brown hair [look up about Andalucia and and al-andalus]
  4. All people dance flamenco [look up 'jota' and 'sardena']

5 All Spanish people go to bullfights [if your Spanish is good search el pais newspaper for articles about bullfighting - try the word 'la corrida' and look up what happens in Pamplona]

This blog has useful information:

Transparent Language blog

The Local/ Buzz Feed and The Huffington Post often have lists relating to this.

Buena suerte

I am not sure if my Tecla link works. Try searching TECLA + esteriotipos It is a pdf of 27 7 2015. TECLA is a magazine produced by The Spanish Government for use to teach people abroad Spanish. The Spanish Embassy in each country has their own version.

Great answer, Mardle :) - FELIZ77, Aug 9, 2016
Another two is that 1. Spanish-speaking people (hispanohablantes) are usually not punctual: they frequently arrive late! 2. Spaniards love going to Bull fights! - FELIZ77, Aug 9, 2016
Of course these stéréotypes are grossly unfair and misrepresentative of Spanish speaking natives. Many Spaniards may actually dislike / hate bullfights - FELIZ77, Aug 9, 2016
It is like saying All British people are terrible at speaking foreign languages! - FELIZ77, Aug 9, 2016
Bullfighting was my number 5. - Mardle, Aug 9, 2016

Estereotipos de los españoles

Los españoles son personas muy apasionadas. Les encantan el vino y las tapas. Usan alpargatas y boina y fuman puro.

Spaniards are very passionate people. They love wine and tapas. They wear espadrilles and berets and they smoke cigars. They are Catholics. Sometimes they like to swear when they get angry. The Galicians are a little silly (sillies), and Aragoneses are stubborn. The Catalans have a reputation for being stingy and good at (for) business. The Andalusians are fun people and like to dance and sing flamenco. But all love the bellotero ham.

Great examples, Luis! Your English is nearly perfect here! ;) Just one obvious correction: and good 'at' (not for) business - FELIZ77, Aug 16, 2016
I hope this helps. Saludos :) - FELIZ77, Aug 16, 2016
Also, Galicians are a little silly, wear... berets. :) - bosquederoble, Aug 16, 2016
Thanks a lot, Feliz! I must admit I counted with the help of Google! ;-) - LuisCache, Aug 16, 2016
Thank you, Bosque! :-) - LuisCache, Aug 16, 2016

Hola Loosveltdmichelle,

Do you mean the stereotypes that the Spanish natives have about other foreign people or thé stéréotypes that other people have about Spanish speaking people? I assume that you are referring to the first option! Am I right?
