only = solo/solamente. The former doesn't use graphic accent according to new rules of RAE. (Real Academia Española.)

Now, needed = necesitaba/necesité. So we have two options:

Solo/solamente necesité comida. (= the perfect preterite used for a particular action happened in the past.)
Solo/solamente necesitaba comida. (= the imperfect form used for a repeated action in the past.)
