Trouble with ¨vez¨ in Mexico...

Question

Is "vez" in mexico used the same as the present tense "ves" in spain? As in, "you see" ... or is this a text shorthand that's become popular for "ves" with latin american spanish speakers? As in "Hey vez que pasa asi ?" Thanks...

¡Hola!

Saying "vez" instead of "ves" is a common error in Latin America because of the "seseo". If you don't know what "seseo" is, I invite you to search some information on Internet. That could be interesting.

In spoken Latin American Spanish they both sound the same. Context usually clarifies the mean. No one would have any problem understanding, ¿Ves lo que pasó esta vez? - Daniela2041, Jul 29, 2016

"Hey vez que pasa asi"

For this we would say: Hay veces que pasa aquí / De vez en cuando pasa aquí.

This actually comes to me from a native Spanish speaker in Mexico writing "vez" but meaning "ves" and telling me that's how it's spelled in Mexico.

This is simply a mistaken or uneducated native Spanish speaker. No one who is educated in Mexico would confuse these two spellings
