creer vs pensar

Hello! Can you tell me what is the difference between verbs creer and pensar? I've heard that we use creer to make opinions, and pensar to describe the process of thinking. I think it is not okay, because we say "que piensas sobre..." when asking about an opinion. So what is right? Thanks

"Creer" The main meaning is "to believe" and may be used as such in all cases where the English word "believe is used."

It is also used by Spanish speakers, to express the Idea of "I think, "- as I think that it's going to rain tomorrow. "Creo que va a llover mañana."

"Pensar" The main meaning of pensar is "to think" but it has additional meanings.

First:: Regarding having an opinion: "¿Qué piensas de los candidatos en esta elección?"

What do you think about the candidates in this election?

Your answer will use "que." Pienso/creo que los dos son locos de atar. (I think they are both raving mad.)

Second: to think about something or someone. "Estoy pensando en mi novio." "I am thinking about my fiancé.

Third: to intend or plan to do something.

Pienso ir al cine esta tarde. "I plan/intend to go to the movies this afternoon.

The difference is the same as that between think and believe in English.
