Hello, my friends. I like to try reading books in Spanish. I read "Old Man and the Sea," and it was great. I could see my improvement in vocabulary as I went along. I also got the book "Virgen de los sicarios," but I find it very hard. I think the nature of that book is that the author uses mpre complicated phrases or words which have many nuances in meaning.

I recently heard an interview of an author, Yuri Herrera. He's written several books in Spanish, a couple of which have been translated into English. They are relatively short, so I imagine they would not take too long to get through. The subject matters sound interesting as well.

Has anyone here read any of Herrera's books? Would it be a good book for a beginner like me to read?

Thank you for any advice!

I hadn't heard of him and was annoyed when I googled him I found out he visited my town last month - described as a rare visit to England. If only you had posted last month that I may have gone to hear him. His books look interesting. I might download a chapter and see how I go.

I prefer reading 'foreign books' with a book in my hand but I find being able to read a few chapters as a sample useful on ebooks.

As a young person, I am somewhat unusual. I do not even own a Kindle or any other type of "reading" device. I love the feel of turning pages. I can also put it down and pick it up again. No batteries needed. Woo, woo! - Daniela2041, Jul 29, 2016
Our Pastor who is twice my age, uses a Kindle instead of a Bible. I show up to church with my well worn Bible. - Daniela2041, Jul 29, 2016
Thanks, Mardle. Good idea about reviewing a sample. Amazon often allows you to read excerpts. I did not know about Herrera until less than a week ago. Sorry you missed him. - Winkfish, Jul 29, 2016
Dani, I use both a Nook and real books. I do have a slight preference for a book, but I've used my Nook a lot and do like the convenience. - Winkfish, Jul 29, 2016

I haven't heard about Herrera, l read Isabel Allende books and they are very entertaining and relatively easy. Also the books of Julia Navarro.
