Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1: No hay autobuses directos a la capital, pero estos nos acercarán.

There are no direct buses to the capital, but these will get us closer.

2: El vuelo directo de Londres a Moscú cuesta el doble de precio.

The direct flight from London to Moscow is twice the price.

Normalmente cuando volamos a Maui mi esposa consigue un vuelo directo, pero en Noviembre vamos a visitar Kauai, y creo que no pudo encontrar un vuelo sin escalas.

Normally when we fly to Maui my wife gets a direct flight, but in November we are going to visit Kauai, and I think that she was unable to find a non-stop flight.

Me acuerdo de que en el tiempo de distensión de la guerra fría un teléfono directo fue instituido entre la Casa blanca y el Kremlin de Moscú y realmente esto ayudó a preservar la paz entre los dos grandes potencias.

I remember when the tensions of the cold war softened a hotline was established between the White House and the Kremlin in Moscow and this really helped to preserve peace between the two great powers.
