abrocharse ( ah-broh-chahr'-seh )

verb ( to fasten; to do up; to tie )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Créelo o no, hay una manera correcta y una manera incorrecta de abrocharse los zapatos.

Believe it or not, there is a right way and a wrong way to tie your shoes.

Para los niños es una tarea difícil abrocharse los zapatos, pero me parece que para los perritos también.

For children it is a difficult task to tie shoes, but it seems that for little dogs too.

Desde que se inventó el Velcro, es más fácil para los niños abrocharse los zapatos.

Since Velcro was invented it is much easier for children to do up their shoes.

Algunas personas no pueden abrocharse el cinturón,

y utilizar en su lugar los apoyos (tirantes).

Some people can not buckle up their belts, and use instead braces.

Cuando regresamos de Kansas hace un mes, alguien tan gordo que no pudo abrocharse el cinturón de seguridad se sintió al lado de mi esposa (quien estaba en el asiento del medio), pero los auxiliares de vuelo lo ignoraron. Mi esposa se me arrimó el vuelo entero.

When we returned from Kansas a month ago, someone so fat that he was unable to fasten his seatbelt sat down next to my wife (who was in the middle seat), but the flight assistants ignored it. My wife snuggled with me the whole flight.

On a flight I took to Spokane, it was a tiny flight, two seats each side, and the guy in front of me had no choice but to get cozy with the guy next to him. Luckily they seemed to hit if off. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 16, 2016
