What is the complete sentence you are trying to say, please?
Here is an example sentence:

= They shook hands on the deal.

Spanish people do not necessarily use the same way of expressing themselves (their ideas, thoughts, feelings) as English people or any other people with a different language which can make translations quite difficult at times for people learning a new language.The way they phrase sentences are often quite different! ![]()
I would say:
(Ella) Sentía que tendría éxito si apretara los manos con él
She felt that she would succeed if she shook hands with him.
shook hands = were to shake hands.
Or possibly better: Sentía que tendría éxito por apretar los manos con él.
There may well be a better way to express this that is closer to your desired sentence....let's see what Dani, Julian Chivi , Luis or Axtoxtua have to say.

A few more suggestions: Estrechar la mano, darle la mano a alguien, darse la mano (reciprocal)
Al darle/estrecharle la mano, sentía que tendría éxito. (Some would say, "sentía tener éxito.")
