mochilero ( moh-chee-leh'-roh )

noun ( backpacker )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

El turismo mochilero es muy interesante y me encanta mucho, pero creo que lo sea apropiado solo para los jóvenes, porque los viejos ya requieren más comodidades.

The backpacker tourism is very interesting and I like it a lot, but I think it is appropriate only for young people, because the old people require more comfort.

Cada vez que oigo hablar de algún mochilero u otro que se ha perdido, me recuerde de qué tan buena era la habilidad de navegación de mi padrastro, con quién solía hacer excursionismo como adolescente millas desde cualquier carretera en el área silvestre nacional de Kalmiopsis.

Every time I hear about some backpacker or another who has gotten lost, it reminds me of how good the navigational skills of my stepfather were, with whom I used to go hiking as a teenager miles from any road in the Kalmiopsis national wilderness area.

Cuando era un niño, mi padre solía decir, "No me digas que no puedes. He visto mochileros que llevan motores sobre las montañas. Se puede hacer cualquier cosa que te propongas hacer."

When I was a kid, my dad used to say, "Don't tell me you can't. I've seen backpackers carrying engines over mountains. You can do anything you set your mind to do."

Cada los lunes, cuando voy a mi clase de español, siento como un mochilero porque mi mochila está lleno de libros y cuadernos.

Every Monday, when I go to my Spanish class, I feel like a backpacker because my back-pack is filled with books and notebooks.

(Tomé una foto de mi mochila. But I had trouble trying to post it, so use your imagination)

You can say: todos los lunes (all Mondays) or cada lunes (every Monday). Good sentence from real life! - Jubilado, Jul 3, 2016
Gracias, Jubilado. I originally wrote 'cada lunes' then tried 'todos los lunes', then decided that 'cada' was OK after all, so switched it back but forgot to remove the 'los'. :) - canuckmarc, Jul 3, 2016
I know what you mean there. :) - rac1, Jul 3, 2016

Uno de mis objetivos de vida es pasar un verano como una mochilera en el Sendero de los Apalaches.

One of my life goals is to spend a summer as a backpacker on the Appalachian Trail.
