There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1: Favor de poner su equipaje en los compartimientos superiores.

Please put your luggage in the overhead compartments.

2: Puedes recoger tu equipaje en la zona de reclamo de equipaje.

You can pick up your baggage at baggage claim.

A mi esposa le gusta elegir equipaje que sea fácil de ver cuando es hora de recogerlo, pero yo tengo una maleta negra y he tenido que marcarla mediante etiquetas de la Universidad de Oregón.

My wife likes to pick luggage that is easy to see when it is time to pick it up, but I have black suitcase and have had to mark it using tags from the University of Oregon.

I just find the looking at endless black bags to see which is yours a challenge. I can pick my wife's out as soon as it is on the belt. :D - bosquederoble, Jul 1, 2016

No llevo mucho equipaje--nada más voy a pasar el fin de semana en casa de mi abuela.

I'm not carrying much baggage, --I'm only going to spend the weekend a Grandma's.

Él viaja más rápido quien viaja, sin equipaje más ligero es el mejor.

Algunos hombres no creen esta , que lástima.

He travels fastest who travels lightest ,no luggage is the best.

Some men do not believe this , what a pity. enter image description here

Es bueno de ir a ligero de equipaje pero me parece que esto es una exageración.

It's good go with a light luggage but I think this is an exaggeration

¿Cuánto se le suele dar de propina al botones o al portero del hotel por llevar tu equipaje a la habitación o a la recepción del hotel?

How much do most people tip a bellhop or porters for bringing your luggage to your room or to the hotel reception?

How much is usually given as a tip to the bellhop or porter for bringing your luggage to your room or to the hotel reception?

Tipping Etiquette: How to Tip When Traveling

What is a standard tip for a bellman?

"Se le suele dar ...al botones..." Is the verb solerse and the "le" referring to el botones? Explique en un mensaje personal si se necesita. - Jubilado, Jul 1, 2016
My analysis- passive se with soler= is usually, and yes le= el botones/portero- How much is usually given as a tip to the bellhop or porter. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 1, 2016
I should certainly hope so, Luis. Those guys work for next to nothing. - rac1, Jul 1, 2016
I usually tip them 5 dollars. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 1, 2016
You are right, Bosque! It is a passive se with soler. Se suele... . And "le" is el botones/ portero. If you consider both of them as plural, then you should use "les". - LuisCache, Jul 1, 2016
I think 5 dollars is right! Saludos, Bosque! :) - LuisCache, Jul 1, 2016

A customs officer at an airport asked a man carrying a large suitcase: "Do you have anything to declare, sir?" The old man jokingly replied, "Only my wife!" His wife picked up the suitcase and whacked him over the knees with the case and it suddenly broke open ...revealing many expensive and undeclared bottles of perfume and wine! This man is now helping police with their enquiries! He didn't appear worried about having to explain why he was carrying the bottles, but he did have to admit feeling terrified of having to explain the joke to his wife! wink

A single person can travel without much luggage and a couple doesn't need much more either, but if there are children suddenly the amount of luggage increases enormously.
