noun ( sandbar, sandbank )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Los pescadores a menudo reparan sus redes en un banco de arena cuando la marea baja.

Fishermen often repair their nets on a sandbar at low tide.

That's interesting...Is that the reason, JR? - rac1, Jun 29, 2016
The reason part1: We used to run gill nets 300 fathoms (600 yards) long... run them out of the boat at high tide (water over the sandbar). - jrschenk, Jun 29, 2016
The reason part2: Then let the tide go out (now the boat with nets strung out are dry on sandbar... do repair. Dangerous if the tide comes in rough. - jrschenk, Jun 29, 2016
I had an uncle die doing this... tide comes in rough, pounds keel out of the old boat. Alas. - jrschenk, Jun 29, 2016
Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that. - rac1, Jun 29, 2016

Treinta delfines quedaban varados en el banco de arena. Bañistas acudieron al rescate y en poco tiempo lograron introducirlos nuevamente en el mar.

Thirty dolphins were stranded on the sandbar. Bathers came to the rescue and soon managed to introduce them back into the sea.

I would say, "help them back"... Or ..."put them back"... Sounds more natural. :) - rac1, Jun 29, 2016
Or even "reintroduce them to the sea" ;) - jrschenk, Jun 29, 2016
I like it the way you wrote it. Good job porcu :-)! - Jraider, Jun 29, 2016
Me too! - Daniela2041, Jun 29, 2016
Gracias amigos - porcupine7, Jun 30, 2016
To introduce doesn't sound natural in this sentence, amiga. It's not necessarily wrong, but would sound better to say it differently. - rac1, Jul 4, 2016

A man dreamt that he had inherited a large sum of money and wanted to build a house by the sea, so he asked for (sought) some financial advice. Almost everybody told him :"Don't do it! but finally he was able to find a man who was willing to sell him his dream house! Where can I invest the rest of my money? he asked the estate agent " (You can) Try a sand bank replied the man with a wry smile, but you must remember that it is only open when it is low tide!" wink

Also "ponía mala cara" ("una not needed") - Daniela2041 21 mins ago

Muchas gracias por tus correcciones, Dani smile

Un banco de arena puede proteger una parte de una costa de los efectos del oleaje y permite que sobreviva un ecosistema muy distinta al que existiría si no estuviera.

A sandbar can protect a part of a coast from the effects of the waves and allow an ecosystem very different from that which would exist if it weren't there to survive.

Cerca de mí hay una playa famosa por el surf pero es muy peligrosa para los nadadores porque los bancos de arena se derrumban frecuentamente sin previo aviso.

Near me there is a beach famous for surfing but it is very dangerous for swimmers because the sandbanks often collapse without warning.
