Preterite vs Imperfect - Una amiga genial

I need help deciding when to use preterite or imperfect forms in the example below. These are the instructions

Una amiga genial Hacía un año que Cristina y Rosita no se veían. Lee qué hicieron el día que pasaron juntas. Escribe la forma correcta del pretérito o del imperfecto de los verbos entre paréntesis, según corresponda.

I have put what I think the answers are, but I am not sure they are right. Could someone please help me by explaining the correct answers? Thanks

(1) (ser) las ocho de la mañana cuando Rosita (2) (llegar) a mi casa. (3) (estar) muy guapa. Nos (4) (dar) un abrazo (hug) muy fuerte y sin perder un minuto nos (5) (ir) a la ciudad. Durante el viaje, (6) (conversar) mucho. Cuando (7) (llegar) a casa, ya (8) (ser) casi las diez de la noche. Fue un día maravilloso. ¡Rosita es una amiga genial!

1.Fue 2. llegó 3. Estaba 4. daba 5. fuimos 6. conversaba 7. llegabas 8. éramos

(1) Should be "eran" --Always use the imperfect for telling time in the past.

(2) OK

(4) nos dimos ---we gave each other a hug.

(5)OK

(6)conversamos mucho (we talked a lot.) conversábamos mucho (we were talking a lot) I prefer "conversamos"

(7) llegamos --we arrived.

(8) eran (telling time in the past again.) --It was almost 10:pm.

Now on the basis of what is given I am supposing that "nosotras" is the subject of most of these sentences.

Daniela2041 Pretty much covered it perfectly. Definitely just remember TIME is IMPERFECT!!!!!! That's very important. Imperfect describes actions that happened habitually or that were going on when another action interrupted. The 1st verb is in the imperfect- the 2nd- the preterite.

Example:

Yo leía cuando mi papá entró. I was reading when my dad entered.
