There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Preferí los lagos al mar porque tuvo miedo de las oleajes pero se descubrió que en los lagos podemos también encontrarnos con oleajes enormes y peligrosos.

I preferred the lakes to the sea because I was afraid of the waves but it was found that on lakes we can also find huge and dangerous waves.

En Hawái he descubierto que siempre es mejor hacer esnórquel en el lado oeste de la islas, debido al oleaje que existe en el este- también hace más sol, y llueve menos allí.

In Hawaii I have discovered that it is always better to snorkel on the west side of the islands, due to the surf that exists on the east side- also it is sunnier, and rains less.

Is it always like that? - rac1, Jun 5, 2016
Yes. Calm oceans and sunny skies center on the south east shores, rain and surf on the north west sides- winds blocked by the volcanic mountains. :) - bosquederoble, Jun 5, 2016

Waves clashed, viciously fighting the shore as the moon rose to the peak of the night. Luckily the sun came a little while later and calmed the untamed waves, and returned peace to the beach.

Las oleaje enfrentaron, ferozmente luchando la orilla la luna para el pico de la noche. Por suerte el sol vino un poco después y calmó a las olas indómitas y volvió la paz a la playa.
