How many feet?

How many feet?

Maybe this is a silly question, but I'm trying to find a word for "feet" as in a unit of measurement and not the one attached to your leg. My dictionary just has "pie" and several of the sites I visit just use the same word. Is the correct word for "feet" used for both a unit of measurement and the limb? Thanks.

Example

  • How many feet is it to the bottom of the pool? etc.
  • The building is over 1200 feet tall. etc.

My dictionary gives me this.

‘How tall are you?’ ‘Five foot nine.’ —¿Cuánto mides? —Cinco pies y nueve pulgadas.

Foot = pie; feet = pies

By the way the unit foot/feet actually comes from the lowest parts attached to the legs.

Hi I don't know what dictionary you use, but as the other answers tell you it is like English 1' is pie. 6' is said pies. Pronounced a little like P.A.s not something you eat to get fat!

I don't know what dictionary you use, but I recommend the online word reference which has two bilingual dictionaries namely Oxford and Cambridge plus a forum for advice a monolingual dictionary and a link to RAE.

I notice you are based in the States you would probably find an online applications where height is needed and form s in Spanish and English or on line stores selling items by the foot with bilingual sites.

I find if I am not sure of word for an everyday item going onto an online site is helpful as there is usually a picture. Carrefour depensa and Amazon work for Spain.

Buena suerte
