ondear ( ohn-deh-ahr' )

verb ( to ripple; to wave; to fall in waves )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Podemos ver que en los edificios de embajadas siempre ondea un bandera del país .

We can see that on the buildings of embassies always waves a flag of the country.

"a flag of the country always waves on embassy buildings." would be more natural. - mstivers, Jun 1, 2016
Yes, I agree. Hola amiga. :) - rac1, Jun 1, 2016
Strangely, we say: to fly a flag'. Or to wave one, if a person is holding it, for example spectators at the Olympics wave falgs a lot. - annierats, Jun 1, 2016
Anyway, nice sentences! - annierats, Jun 1, 2016

Cuando vi las ramas del árbol de nuestro vecino ondeando en la brisa, y las nubes de polvo amarillo que esto soltaba, sabía que iba a tener problemas- y ni una pastilla de fexofenadina ni un rociador nasal de esteroides pudo salvarme.

When I saw the branches of our neighbor’s tree rippling in the breeze, and the clouds of yellow dust that that was releasing, I knew that I was going to have problems- and neither a fexofenadine pill nor a nasal steroid spray was able to save me.

Only to a certain kind of evergreen tree. Which my neighbor has chosen to grow right next to my yard. :) - bosquederoble, Jun 1, 2016
Very kind of him.. - annierats, Jun 1, 2016
Well, if I am being honest, I will admit he had it planted before I moved in. But it is a lot bigger now and reaches into my yard :) - bosquederoble, Jun 2, 2016

En Estados Unidos, nos encanta ondear la bandera. Pero según mi amigo español, la bandera española sólo se ve cuando la selección gana.

In the US, we love to wave the flag. But according to my Spanish friend, you only see the Spanish flag when the national soccer team wins.

Maybe Daniela can answer that one... - mstivers, Jun 1, 2016
No, many people fly the flag by their house en el campo. But, obviously, not like you Americans. In the UK, nobody flies the flag at a private house..Never ever. - annierats, Jun 1, 2016
I've been away from Spain too long to answer that one. I have had much more contact with Mexico and Mexicans. - Daniela2041, Jun 1, 2016

Pablo drove the Volkswagen at top speed until he got to a Liddles supermarket near the street where his mother lived. He left the car with the keys in the ignition, in the knowledge that somebody would very quickly solve the problem of how to get rid of the '' borrowed'' car. He ran to his mother's house, which was a short-stay hotel.

'' Mum! '' he shouted loudly upon seeing a very large woman approaching. She was dressed as a belly-dancer in a grass skirt and her stomach rippled.

No vemos el viento , sin embargo, creemos en ella cuando vemos las hojas ondulan con la brisa. enlace: ? Las hojas de otoño por Nat King ? Cole (2:40: - ) enter image description here

We do not see the wind; however, we believe in it when we see the leaves ripple in the breeze.

No hay viento; por eso la vela no ondea, y el pobre barco de vela ( o velero) está atorado en el agua y no puede moverse.

There is no wind; therefore the sail is not moving and the poor sailbot is stuck in the water and can't move.
