errante ( eh-rrahn'-teh )

adjective ( wandering, stray; faraway )

Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

I thought a "casco" was a helmet. I would have used "barrio" here. :) - Daniela2041, May 21, 2016
Me too but this one is straight out of my dictionary Dani. - ian-hill, May 22, 2016
Dani, it is casco for old town centres centres here. It is true, it is on all the road signs. - annierats, May 22, 2016

Otro motivo para no abrir la puerta si no sabes quién está- puede ser un aligátor errante que ha decidido visitarte y que ha tocado tu timbre.

Another reason not to open the door if you don't know who is there- it could be an errant alligator that has decided to visit you and has rung your doorbell.

My wondering mind started to astray from my work as the stray dog started to wonder around the school yard. Where did he come from I asked myself. Then the teacher hit my desk with my school book and made me jump. The class laughed as the heat of embarrassment started flowing through me.

In my country we have a big problem of Stray Dogs and Cows and I feel terrible looking at their condition and the circumstances they live in.. They don't even have food and clean water to eat and drink .. let alone other things .. May God help them ..

En la Isla de Phillip donde vivo hay un gran problema con los gatos errantes que matan a muchos pequeños animales y pájaros, incluso los famosos pingüinos. Hay dos empleados en lel Parque de la Naturaleza cuyo trabajo es atrapar estos gatos salvages. El gato en la foto tiene un conejo. ¡Esto no me molesta porque los conejos también son una plaga!

Rac, a lot of Australia is very dry and it all looks th same, or, you can travel for 36 hrs on the train, then look out of the window and it all looks the same..One of the few places I have actually visited in this world. - annierats, May 22, 2016

Un médico había entrado en la habitacón de Pablo mientras él estaba soñando con luceros. -Parece que es usted un paciente errante, le dijo el médico. - Como usted tiene una fractura de cráneo no podemos permitir que usted circulca por el hospital en ésta manera. Vamos a ponerle un identificador RFID, para saber donde está usted en cualquier momento de día o de noche. Es por su propio seguridad.

A doctor had entered Pablo's room whilst he was dreaming of stars. '' It seems you have a tendency to wander'', said the doctor. ''As you have a fractured skull we can't allow you to roam around in the hospital like this. We are going to put an electronic tag on you, in order to know where you are at any given moment of the day or night. It's for your own safety. ''
