ovillarse ( oh-bee-yahr'-seh )

verb ( to curl up, to curl up into a ball )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Homer tenía tanto miedo de dar un discurso que se ovilló en el escenario.

Homer was so afraid of giving a speech that he curled up in the fetal position on the stage.

A los nietos les gusta mucho ovillarse en los regazos de sus abuelitos.

Grandchildren love to curl up in their grandparents laps.

Me parece que este gato progresa muy bien con nuestra época, él se ovilla en el teclado de la computadora.

I think this cat is progressing very well with our times, he is curling up in a ball on the computer keyboard.

Los animales que tienen o un caparazón de placas o púas suelen poder ovillarse muy firmemente, porque sí no sus defensas no funcionaría bien sí no.

Animals that have either plated armor or spines usually are able to roll up very tightly into a ball, because their defenses would not function well otherwise.

El equidna pasa la mayor parte del día excavando y comiendo las hormigas pero si es perturbada por un animal grande, se ovilla hasta que el intruso se va.

The echidna spends most of the day digging and eating ants but if it is disturbed by a large animal it curls into a ball until the intruder goes away.

Pablo se despertó muy lentamente, como si fuera andando en la niebla. Le dolió la cabeza. No quería más que ovillarse en un sófa pero su brazo izquierdo parecía atado a algo.Se dió cuenta de un pitido en la habitación. Bip..bip..bip. . Vio a un gotero al lado. Entendió que estaba en la UCI. Volvió a cerrar los ojos, ojalá que estuviera otra vez en la cárcel donde sabía como comportarse.

Pablo surfaced very slowly , as though he was walking through fog. His head ached. All he wanted to do was was to curl up in a sofa but his left arm seemed to be tied up to something. He noticed a beeping sound in the room. Beep..beep..beep. He saw a drip at his side. He realized that he was in Intensive Care. He closed his eyes again , if only he was back in prison again , where he knew how to behave.
