crepúsculo ( kreh-poo'-skoo-loh )

noun ( twilight, dusk )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1: Los guacamayos volaron sobre el río al caer el crepúsculo.

The macaws flew over the river as dusk fell.

2: En el crepúsculo de su vida, la mujer disfrutaba mucho la compañía de sus hermanos.

In the twilight of her life, the woman enjoyed the company of her siblings very much.

Pablo estaba planeando su escape de la cárcel, pero no era un hombre tan fuerte como los protagonistas de las películas, y con su soplo de corazón no quería excavar un túnel, tampoco era muy valiente. De verdad era un preso perezoso que pasaba las horas de crépusculo imaginandose libre por algún acto de dios, un terremoto por ejemplo , dejando las puertas del prisón abiertas de par en par.

Pablo was planning his escape from prison but he was not as strong as the film heroes are , and with his heart murmur he didn't want to dig a tunnel and he wasn't all that brave either. In truth, he was a lazy prisoner who passed the twilight hours imagining himself set free by some act of God, something like an earthquake, that would leave the prison doors wide open.

A medida que se acercaba el crepúsculo, los murciélagos salieron salían de la cueva.

As twilight approached, the bats poured out of the cave.

Si quieras ver en Bayreuth lal opera de Wagner El crepúsculo de los dioses , debes buscar billetes de teatro muchos años de antemano

If you want to see in Bayreuth the Wagner opera Twilight of the gods, you must look for theater tickets many years in advance.

Durante los meses de verano oigo con frecuencia los gritos de grullas grises volando por encima de mi casa en el crepúsculo.

I frequently hear the cries of sandhill cranes flying over my house at twilight during the summer months.

Hay poco quien sabe que hay tres crepúsculos cada noche después del puesto del sol. El puesto del sol está seguido por el crepúsculo civil y después el crepúsculo náutico y por fin el crepúsculo astronomical.

There are few who know that there are three twilights every evening following sunset. Sunset is followed by civil twilight then nautical twilight and finally astronomical twilight.

really? How interesting. But the Spanish phrase includes dawn..So even more to think about! - annierats, May 10, 2016
Yes there are the same three (in reverse order) at dawn ending in sunrise. - gringojrf, May 10, 2016
I knew that, but I've never understood how to apply the terms to what I see out my window. - AnnRon, May 10, 2016

Muchos animales prefieren ser más activos durante el crepúsculo (es decir el amanecer y el atardecer), y este es el comportamiento más natural para tantos tanto para los perros como para los gatos, aunque sus dueños podrían tener otras ideas.

Many animals prefer to be most active during twilight (that is to say dawn and dusk), and this is the behavior that is most natural for both cats and dogs, although their owners may have other ideas.

Gato is loco. :) - rac1, May 10, 2016
I don't know how I wrote tantos. I think you have made a similar correction before on the word order- I will have to work on remembering it. Thanks, Pablo. :) - bosquederoble, May 10, 2016
I was going to write about mosquitos when I saw the word, but this would have been very similar to yours. - annierats, May 10, 2016
I really think a sentence about mosquitoes could be quite different, but I like what you went with anyway. :) - bosquederoble, May 10, 2016
Yes Bosque I remember having corrected the same :D - Pablo064, May 11, 2016

Georgette was very careful driving at dusk so that she would not hit a deer.

Georgette fue muy cuidadosa al conducir en el crépusculo para que no chocar contra un venado.

La primera vez que oí el término 'crepúscular' fue acerca del animal famoso de Australia, el ornitorrinco, porque es solamente activo en el crepúsculo.

The first time that I heard the term 'crepuscular' was in connection with the famous Australian animal the platypus, because it is only active in the twilight .
