There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Leitisvatn/Sørvágsvatn is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands. The lake is located very close to the ocean, but its surface is about 40 meters above the level of sea. It is surrounded by a higher cliff which prevents it from emptying into the ocean. :) - bosquederoble, May 3, 2016

La honda es una de las armas más antiguas de la Humanidad. Su origen se remonta a los tiempos prehistóricos, quizás al Paleolítico, en el que se usaría exclusivamente como arma de caza.

The sling is one of the oldest weapons of mankind. Its origin dates back to prehistoric times, perhaps the Paleolithic, when it was used exclusively as a hunting weapon.

They all believed that when the cow was launched out of the catapult, that she had flown over the moon. Now this amazing story has been told a million times without curiosity where old Bessie went.

New sentance: Todos ellos creyeron que cuando la vaca fue lanzada de la honda, había volado sobre la luna. Ahora esta historia asombrosa ha sido contada un millón de veces sin la curiosidad .de a donde fue la vieja Bessie. *Thanks for the corrections Pablo064, Rac1 ,and Jraider. *

Original sentence: Todos ellos creen que cuando la vaca fue lanzada de la honda, que había volado sobre la luna. Ahora esta historia asombrosa ha sido contada un millón de veces sin la curiosidad donde vieja Bessie fue.

Aunque normalmente pensamos en usar algo como un guijarro con una honda, algunos prefieren usar una flecha para cazar animales más grandes.

Although normally we think about using something like a pebble with a slingshot, some prefer using an arrow in order to hunt larger animals.

Aunque la palabra ' honda' parece bastante inútil ¿quien sabe? Puede ser que uno de estos días te guste matar a tu suegra o a tu novia..

Although the word ' sling' seems rather useless these days, who knows. One day you might like to kill you mother-in-law or your girl-friend..

Por fin sé como (pedirle) preguntarle a mi vecino, “Oye, hombre, ¿puedes prestarme tu honda?” Pero el problema es que manejar maneja un Honda.

At last I know how to ask my neighbor, “Hey, man, can I borrow your catapult?” But the problem is that he drives a Honda.

(¿Que le dices a un caballero de armadura con tabla de surf? ¿Buscas una (h)onda?)*

*I found out in my Spanish Conversation session that the word for "ocean wave" is ola so I'm not sure this will work - pero claro puede decirle al caballero, "¡Hola!"

What do you say to a knight in armor with a surfboard? Nothing. It doesn’t work in English.

David pudo derrotar al gigante Goliath porque detras de su honda fue Jehovah, el Señor de los ejércitos.

David was able to defeat the giant Goliath because behind his slingshot was Jehovah, the God of the heavenly armies
