Is Spanishdict.com free or not?

I joined Spanishdict.com thinking it was free. But now to do almost anything I have to join Fluencia and pay. This is false advertising.

No, you don't. SpanishDict is free. Fluencia is a different learning site altogether. - rac1, Apr 29, 2016

Well, no. Everything on Spanishdict is free. Fluencia, which charges, is a separate site. It is true that a lot of links now take you to ads for Fluencia, but the free lessons, reference articles, flashcards, etc., are still here just like they have been from the outset. You just have to know how to access them. Here's a link to the first level of free Spanish video lessons. There are several threads on this forum that explain how to get to other free resources.

I don't think Spanishdict ever promised anyone that it would never develop a paid course and never run ads for it on the free site, so your charge of false advertising is bogus.

Hi Ballmerguy, welcome to SpanishDict! AnnRon gave the best answer and gave you this link to free lessons:

http://www.spanishdict.com/learn/browse/1

But there is a lot more that is free. If you click on the Menu icon at the top left corner of any page, you will find 8 resources for learning Spanish, and only one of them is the Fluencia course. The other nine are all totally free.

In defense of the Fluencia course, I did it and it was amazing. (And no, I'm just a normal person like you, not an employee or moderator for SpanishDict). Have you tried the free trial? When I did it, you got two weeks free trial. Pick a two week period when you can really put in a lot of hours, and you will be amazed how much you will learn (for free!). It is very fun and engaging, with beautiful pictures. You might find it so addicting that you will be happy to pay the nominal monthly fee for a few months to complete the course. Think about it, Some courses cost hundreds of dollars, but for only $50 - $60 you can learn a LOT of Spanish with fluencia. Also, they are constantly improving and expanding the course. I did it a couple years ago, and I recently saw that they have added many more units with more advanced materiel, so I am going to re-enroll.

Good luck with your Spanish studies, and again, welcome to SpanishDict. It is a wonderful site!

Good post with interesting feedback regarding Fluencia. Thanks. I'd hesitated, but after reading your comments I might just sign up for the free trial. - AnnRon, May 19, 2016

There is no such thing as a free lunch, as my dear mother-in-law would say: No, it costs 100 dollars or euros. Please send them straight to my account and keep quiet in order to avoid tax. With tax it is 135 dollars or 158 euros.

But now to do almost anything I have to join Fluencia

  • You can look up words in dictionaries, and in fact translate whole paragraphs.
  • You can read about grammar and vocabulary.
  • You can use this forum to complain about SpanishDict.

And more.

Spanishdict is free, you just have to endure the ad's.

Spanishdict es gratis, pero tienen avisos comerciales.

Gracias Chileno. ;) - 00cc0117, Apr 29, 2016
Oye Chileno, a mí me suena raro "avisos comerciales" pues ha de ser algo propio de tu país ¿verdad? En México todo el mundo dice "anuncio" - 005faa61, Apr 29, 2016
