145 word Spanish essay help
Hey everyone!
I was just wondering if someone would mind proofreading this Spanish essay for me. I have run it through language checking sites (like spanishchecker.com) and fixed the mistakes there, but I just wanted an opinion from an actual speaker. This is a Spanish 2 class, so they are not expecting super complex sentence structures. The topic is:
“El medio ambiente y la economía”. Write about one or more environmental issue and how it affects and/or is affected by the economy. You can focus on the US, or a Hispanic country.
What I have written is:
En los Estados Unidos, hay muchos problemas con la medioambiental. Hay un agujero en la capa de ozono, la gente corta los bosques y mucha gente desperdicia nuestros recursos. Hay mucha basura, y mucha de la gente no recicla. Para proteger el medioambiental, el gobierno tiene muchas opciones. El gobierno puede hacer leyes para protegerlo. Cuando la gente o las factorías hacen mucha contaminación, ellos tienen que pagar dinero al gobierno o tienen que suspender sus actividades. También hay leyes para trabajar en los bosques. Trabajadores de los bosques solamente pueden cortar algunos árboles. No pueden cortar todos los árboles. En algunos lugares, los trabajadores tienen que plantar nuevos árboles. Hay leyes para proteger el medioambiental, pero yo no pienso que haya suficientes leyes. El gobierno necesita hacer más para nuestra Tierra. Si no protegemos la tierra, no vamos a tener un lugar para vivir.
In English what I'm trying to say is:
In the United States, there are many problems with the environment. There is a hole in the ozone layer, people cut down forests, and many people waste our resources. There is a lot of trash, and many of the people don't recycle. In order to protect the environment, the government has many options. The government can make laws to protect it. When people or factories make a lot of contamination they have to pay money to the government or cease/stop their activities. Additionally, there are laws for working in the forests. The workers of the forest can only cut some tree. They can not cut all of the trees. In some places, the workers have to plant new trees. There are laws to protect the environment but I do not think there are sufficient laws. The government needs to do more for our Earth. If we do not protect the land, we are not going to have a place to live.

Well done, but note that medioambiental is an adjective and medio ambiente is the noun.

There are just a few things I would change from it.
Hay un agujero en la capa del ozono
It should be capa de ozono.
...la gente corta los bosques y mucha gente desperdicia nuestros recursos.
There is no need to repeat the subject there. If you want you could say: y muchos desperdician nuestros recursos. What you wrote is not incorrect though, it just sounds repetitive.
Cuando la gente o las fábricas hacen mucha contaminación
Why would you say hacer contaminación when contaminar is a verb in itself?

The article is missing, also I believe Julian forgot to delete "algunos" or "ciertos" since both words mean the same.
