marchito ( mahr-chee'-toh )

adjective ( withered; faded )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

When Eric looked at the photo of his grandmother, he noticed her faded skin and white hair.

Trasladé varios arbustos en mi jardín hace unas pocas semanas, porque abril normalmente es fresco y lluvioso aquí- pero han sucedido varios récords de temperatura máxima- y uno de los arbustos ya está marchito y temo por los otros- voy a tener que modificar mis decisiones acerca del jardín para coincidir con la nueva realidad.

A few weeks ago, I moved several shrubs in my garden, because April normally is cool and rainy here- but a number of high temperature records have occurred- and one of the shrubs is already withered and I fear for the others- I am going to have to adjust my gardening decisions to reflect the new reality.

My wife told me "global warming" is going to leave later this week, and we will be back to the norm- maybe it is just El Niño. Who knows, but we have set a number of new records. :) - bosquederoble, Apr 19, 2016
There was a heavy frost this morning, but I'm going to plant in two weeks :-)! - Jraider, Apr 19, 2016
Global warming is here to stay, but if we all work together, we can at least not make it any worse. - rac1, Apr 19, 2016
No matter how much water I drank from the tap in Costa Rica without getting sick, I could not get anyone else to quit going through tons of bottled water, transported from distance places at high energy costs. My daughter's favorite water is from Fiji. - bosquederoble, Apr 19, 2016
I don't know how to get people to understand the reality. And of course we all love the drop in oil prices that allow us to continue to drive around in our SUVs. - bosquederoble, Apr 19, 2016
I have read that if global warming shuts down the gulf stream, Europe will actually become cooler (and much Ocean life will die). - bosquederoble, Apr 19, 2016
Yes bosque, we are probably seeing only the start of changes. The new reality might be very unstable. - jennysk, Apr 19, 2016

La leccion que podemos aprender de la historia de la higuera marchita en la Biblia es tener fe grande Fe.

The lesson that we can learn from the story of the withered fig tree in the Bible is to have great Faith.

The good times are strong when you are young, but as you grow older those times begin to fade, and you have to wonder "where did the good times go"?

Dicen que si pones una aspirina en el agua del florero, las flores no se te marchitan tan pronto.

They say that if you put an aspirin in the water in a vase, the flowers will not wilt too soon.

Thank you, Jraider! smile

Cuando colgué la pintura, los colores estaban brillantes pero ahora, después de muchos años, la pintura parece muy marchita. Creo que voy a quitarla de la pared.

When I hung the painting the colours were very bright but now, after many years, the painting looks very faded. I think I will take it down off the wall.

Hay gente que cree que los sueños nos traen mensajes secretos y solo hay que intepretarlos para conocer al futuro. Y si sueñas con flores marchitas esto significa el fin de una historia de amor. O no.

There are people who believe that dreams bring us secret messages and all that´s needed is to interpret these in order to know our future. And if you dream of withering flowers it means the end of a love affair. Or not, as the case may be.
